BOSTON — Bruins coach Marco Sturm credited Viktor Arvidsson’s recent scoring surge to his recovery from injuries that had hampered him earlier this season. Following a two-goal performance in a 4-2 victory over Columbus on Thursday, Sturm discussed the factors behind Arvidsson’s improved game and the challenges he faced while not fully healthy.
He was not healthy. He came back and it took longer than we thought,
Sturm said after the game.
He was just not 100 percent.
Impact of Injuries on Arvidsson’s Early Season Performance
Arvidsson sustained lower-body injuries during games on November 15 in Montreal and December 11 in Winnipeg, missing about two weeks in each instance. Even after returning to the lineup, he struggled to regain full skating ability, which limited his effectiveness on the ice and slowed his offensive output.
Surge in Scoring Strengthens Bruins’ Offensive Lines
Since the start of the new year, Arvidsson has scored nine of his 16 goals across 17 games, marking a significant uptick in production. This resurgence has notably boosted the Bruins’ second line, enhancing the team’s overall offensive threat and making it more difficult for opponents to contain their play.
Last season, Arvidsson scored 15 goals, but this year he has already surpassed that total. Sturm, who previously worked with Arvidsson in the Los Angeles Kings organization as an assistant and minor league head coach, recognizes this as a return to the player’s familiar form.
This is the Arvi, why we like him,
Sturm remarked. He does so much.
Looking Ahead for the Bruins and Arvidsson
Arvidsson’s revival comes at a critical moment in the season for the Bruins as they seek to maintain competitive momentum. His ability to contribute consistently will likely play a key role in the team’s playoff aspirations. As he continues to regain full health and confidence on the ice, Bruins fans and staff anticipate sustained offensive production from the veteran forward.
