Devon Toews netted a crucial goal with less than five minutes remaining, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena on Monday night. The win marked the franchise’s 1,750th regular-season triumph, with Gabriel Landeskog, Martin Necas, and Nathan MacKinnon all contributing goals and assists in the game.
Key Contributions from Landeskog, Necas, and MacKinnon
Gabriel Landeskog and Martin Necas each recorded a goal and two assists while Nathan MacKinnon added a goal and one assist to the offensive showcase. Avalanche goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves, stopping 19 of the 21 shots he faced to help secure the win.
“I thought the MacKinnon line with Necas and Landeskog [was] outstanding,”
Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar said.
“[They were] dangerous the whole night, right from the get-go. [They] didn’t really let up the entire night.”
Game Recap: Scoring Timeline and Key Plays
Colorado’s offense began quickly, as Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring at 4:27 of the first period. MacKinnon’s 41st goal of the season came via a one-timer from the slot, capitalizing on a feed from Martin Necas. Later in the period, Landeskog extended the lead to 2-0 at 10:13 with his eighth goal, another one-timer set up by Brent Burns.
The Kings responded before the period ended, with Brandt Clarke scoring a power-play goal at 17:20 off a shot from the point. Los Angeles evened the score at 8:32 of the second period when Angus Booth redirected a shot from close range, bringing the game level at 2-2.
The decisive moment came in the third period. Toews broke the tie at 15:05, scoring his second goal of the season after a well-executed cross-ice pass from MacKinnon, who skillfully moved from the point to the right circle to set up the play.
