Boston Legacy FC strengthened their roster on Thursday by signing Josefine Hasbo, adding another 2025 NWSL Champion to their lineup after previously acquiring Ella Stevens in December. Hasbo, a Danish midfielder and Harvard alumna, participated in 11 matches for Gotham during the 2025 season, including their pivotal semifinal victory against Orlando. To secure Hasbo’s transfer, Boston sent $50,000 in allocation money to Gotham.
Hasbo’s Background and Career Highlights
Josefine Hasbo began her professional soccer career in Denmark at age 17 with Brøndby, where she made 29 starts across two seasons, scored nine goals, and contributed to two league runner-up finishes. She continued her development in the United States, playing four seasons for Harvard University’s Crimson team. In college, Hasbo appeared in 55 games, earned First-Team All-Ivy League honors twice, and recorded 25 goals along with 17 assists.
After completing her studies, she signed with Gotham in June 2025. Internationally, the 24-year-old midfielder has represented Denmark’s senior national team since 2020, accumulating 20 appearances with 12 starts and scoring twice, including experience in World Cup and European Championship tournaments.
Boston Legacy’s Vision and Hasbo’s Role Moving Forward
Domè Guasch, Boston Legacy’s general manager, expressed enthusiasm for Hasbo’s signing, noting her existing connection to Boston through Harvard and the valuable NWSL experience she brings.
“We’re really happy to welcome Josefine back to Boston. She already knows the city and the environment from her time at Harvard, and that familiarity, along with her NWSL experience, will help her hit the ground running,”
Guasch said.
Guasch also emphasized Hasbo’s versatility and tactical awareness, qualities essential to Boston Legacy’s ambitions.
“She’s played at the highest level for Denmark, including the World Cup and Euros, and she brings a real mix of tactical intelligence, flexibility, and competitiveness,”
he added.
“Josefine can help in a number of roles, and she understands what the game is asking for in different moments. Just as important, she fits what we’re building at Boston Legacy, on the pitch and off it. We’re excited to have her with us and looking forward to the impact she’ll make.”
Significance of the Acquisition for Boston Legacy
The addition of Josefine Hasbo bolsters Boston Legacy’s midfield strength with a player experienced at both collegiate and international levels, whose tactical versatility aligns with the club’s strategic goals. Her familiarity with Boston and proven championship pedigree enhances the team’s depth and potential as they prepare for upcoming competitions. With Hasbo’s arrival complementing recent signings, Boston Legacy aims to build on their momentum and pursue greater success in future NWSL seasons.
