Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods’ Son, Commits to Florida State

Charlie Woods, son of golf icon Tiger Woods, confirmed on Tuesday that he will join Florida State University’s golf program in 2027. This announcement marks a significant achievement for the Seminoles, who have been competing with several top programs to recruit the promising young player.

Recruitment Details and Performance Highlights

Florida State’s golf coach, Trey Jones, actively engaged with Charlie during the recruiting process. In November, Jones accompanied Tiger Woods on the course while Charlie delivered a team-best score of 68, leading The Benjamin School to the Florida 1A state championship. Currently 17 years old and a junior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, Woods enters a strong recruiting class that includes Miles Russell, the world’s top-ranked amateur from Jacksonville, Florida. Charlie himself holds the No. 23 spot in the AJGA rankings and secured a victory at the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational last May.

Tiger Woods Reflects on the Recruitment Process

Tiger Woods shared insights into the modern recruiting environment, contrasting his own experience in the 1990s with the rapid communication available today.

“It’s been very different, the recruiting process. Now you have cell phones,”

Tiger said.

“We didn’t have cell phones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. ‘Oh, my God, I got a letter.’ It’s just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they’re trying to recruit. It’s just a different world. Not saying it’s good or bad. It’s just different.”

Family Legacy and Future Outlook

Tiger Woods himself played collegiate golf at Stanford University, where he won his first college event and earned All-American honors from 1996 to 1998 before turning professional. His sister, Sam Woods, also showed athletic talent as part of The Benjamin School’s state-title soccer team before attending Stanford. Charlie Woods’ commitment to Florida State not only highlights his personal potential but also underscores the family’s ongoing connection to elite college sports and the future of golf talent development.
