Tom Kim stunned spectators at Jupiter Golf Links by sinking only the second hole-in-one in TGL history, a moment made more memorable by celebrating alongside Tiger Woods. The 23-year-old’s remarkable shot not only turned the tide but also helped Jupiter Golf Links advance to the playoffs by eliminating Bay Golf Club. Kim described sharing that celebration with the legendary 15-time major champion as an unforgettable experience.
Team Effort Secures Crucial Playoff Position
Heading into the late stages of the match, Jupiter Golf Links trailed Bay Golf Club by a single point. Kim’s precise hole-in-one on the penultimate hole, followed by enthusiastic celebrations with teammates including Woods, Max Homa, and Kevin Kisner, proved decisive. This victory was key for Jupiter Golf Links’ postseason qualification. The team’s depth was further highlighted by partnerships with star players like Rory McIlroy and recent announcements about the WTGL expansion slated for winter, incorporating more women players into competitive TGL.
Tom Kim Reflects on Hole-in-One and Team Dynamics
Reflecting on his historic shot, Kim admitted there was immense pressure but expressed joy over the outcome.
“That was one thing. It’s a shot that I’ve hit well before and it’s a shot that I’ve practiced a lot in the stadium. I haven’t made much hole-in-ones in my life, and not a better way to do it than today.”
His comments emphasize years of preparation culminating in a pivotal moment that swung momentum in his team’s favor.
Tiger Woods Enjoys Team Golf During Recovery
While Tiger Woods did not take any shots during this event, he expressed how much fun the experience was as he continues to recover from recent back surgery.

“Yeah, this was a blast, To be with these guys, this was our original team last year, so we bonded last year and coming into this year, and then obviously adding Akshay. We’ve had a blast.”
Woods highlighted the camaraderie among teammates and the joy of contributing to the team atmosphere despite his physical limitations. He added,
“That’s the thing, we had a blast last year, we’re having a blast this year. For each one of these guys to earn the holes coming in and contribute like they did, it couldn’t be more special and better for these guys.”
Surreal Celebration for Kim Alongside PGA Legend
Kim called the celebration alongside Woods surreal, noting that golf has traditionally been an individual sport until more team-focused events like TGL emerged.
“It’s pretty fun. I’ve never really — golf is such an individual sport and has been for such a long time. We’re starting now to have more team events, and you probably never see Tiger celebrate that much more another person have a hole-in-one,”
Kim said. He also emphasized the collective nature of the success, stating,
“No, it was fun. But I think everyone needs to understand, my hole-in-one doesn’t happen if Max doesn’t birdie the previous hole. This is such a team effort.”
Pressure and Teamwork: The Final Moments of the Match
Kim admitted relief after his shot, adding,
“I was just so glad I didn’t have to hit anymore because there was a lot of pressure on Kis to finish the match.”
As captain, Woods was thrilled with the team’s playoff push and praised every member’s effort.
“Well, I mean, hey, we had an opportunity to get in the playoffs on Sunday and we came up just a little bit short,”
Woods explained, acknowledging the narrow margin. He continued,
“But it took a total team effort, and we did it today. As I said, we weathered so many putts that they made from everywhere. It came down to literally the very end.”
Woods Highlights Key Performances Driving the Victory
Woods singled out the contributions that led to the turnaround, saying,
“As I said earlier, I can’t be more proud of these guys for every one of them contributing when we needed it the most, and it started off with Max. If Max doesn’t get that, then the worm doesn’t turn. But it flipped on Max, TK took over, and then Kis just cleaned it up.”
This sequence demonstrated the team’s resilience and depth, key factors in securing their place in the playoffs.
The Growing Impact of Team Events like TGL
Kim’s hole-in-one and the team’s collective success illustrate the evolving nature of golf as more team-based formats gain prominence. The collaboration between veterans like Woods and emerging stars such as Kim symbolizes a generational shift, adding excitement and intensity to the sport. The upcoming WTGL expansion aimed at increasing women’s participation highlights TGL’s commitment to inclusivity and growth. Fans can expect more thrilling moments as these events develop over the coming seasons.
