Pickleball Complex Proposal Near Whispering Pines: City leaders and developers are moving closer to creating a major pickleball complex near Whispering Pines Golf Course. Council members are set to authorize a letter of intent with PicklePort Myrtle Beach LLC, giving both sides 180 days to negotiate a deal for the project.
If approved, the new facility would be located on city-owned land at 900 Harrelson Blvd. According to project documents,
“PicklePort would be permitted to develop and operate a recreational complex focused on racquet sports/pickleball, with associated signage, food, beverage, merchandise, and other entertainment supporting the operation such as live music, video/simulators, and big-screen viewing of pickleball tournaments.”
Details of the Agreement
The proposed agreement would grant PicklePort a 20-year term, with options for up to 15 years of renewal. In return, the city would receive annual payments starting at $17,500 between years two and five, increasing to $35,000 in year five. Payments would then be adjusted every five years based on inflation.
