Erie Pickleball’s New Tyler Boulevard Facility: What began as a bold vision to transform a dusty warehouse into a premier indoor pickleball facility has become a reality for Chris O’Donnell and Kay O’Donnell. Erie Pickleball, their new venture at 8020 Tyler Blvd., opened its doors in late June, and the response has been nothing short of extraordinary.
A Premier Facility for Pickleball Enthusiasts
The six-court facility, nestled by a picturesque man-made lake, was designed with pickleball enthusiasts in mind. The O’Donnells, driven by their passion for the sport, have created a space that already feels like a hub for the local pickleball community. Chris O’Donnell expressed his astonishment at the enthusiastic reception, saying, “We have been amazed with how well our first few weeks have gone. The pickleball community is unlike any other, and we have already met some really wonderful people who want to see our business, and the game of pickleball, thrive.”
Innovative Features and Community Focus
Erie Pickleball’s standout features include a user-friendly court reservation app that allows players to book their playtime effortlessly. This system aims to eliminate the frustration of battling for court time and ensures that players won’t find themselves sitting out for long periods. The facility also offers private court reservations, adding an extra layer of convenience for those looking for more exclusive playtime.
The heart of the facility is the Community Room, designed to foster social interaction before and after games. “The Community Room is a space where players can unwind and socialize, enhancing the overall experience,” Chris noted. This thoughtful touch, along with the bright, open courts and sound-absorbent ceiling materials, reflects the O’Donnells’ commitment to creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
Continuous Improvement and Future Plans
Despite the initial success, the O’Donnells continue to refine the facility. Chris explained, “We’re still awaiting our permanent furniture in the Community Room, but we’re making do with some temporary tables and chairs. Smaller items, like signs and hooks, continue to go up, and we will continue to tweak things as needed, based on suggestions from our members.”
Upcoming events at Erie Pickleball: Looking ahead, Erie Pickleball plans to offer a full slate of activities beyond regular play. Upcoming events include birthday parties, Christmas in July festivities, and corporate gatherings. Beginner and intermediate classes are already underway, and Chris envisions expanding the programming to fully capitalize on the facility’s potential.
Accessible and Inclusive
Open seven days a week, with hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays, Erie Pickleball is set to become a cornerstone of the local pickleball scene. The O’Donnells have equipped the facility with rental equipment for newcomers and are eager to share their love of the game with the community.
As Chris O’Donnell put it, “We’re just really excited about the future here and grateful for all the support we’ve received from our family, friends, and the community. We encourage anyone who hasn’t played pickleball to get out to any court in our area and give it a try.”
With its commitment to inclusivity and community, Erie Pickleball is well on its way to becoming a beloved destination for pickleball enthusiasts in Mentor and beyond.
