Sherwood Launches New 24/7 Pickleball Courts: In a bid to embrace the booming popularity of pickleball across the nation, Sherwood has unveiled state-of-the-art 24/7 pickleball courts adjacent to the local police station. Mayor Mary Jo Hightownsel, welcoming the initiative, emphasized the city’s commitment to providing a safe and accessible recreational space.
“These courts have been buzzing since their recent opening,” Mayor Hightownsel remarked during a live interview at City Hall Park. “We’ve seen an incredible demand for pickleball, and these facilities meet that need perfectly.
Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport known for its blend of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, has swept through communities nationwide. Sherwood’s investment in these facilities underscores a broader trend observed among municipalities across Central Arkansas.
“I’ve spoken with mayors across the region, and pickleball is a phenomenon,” Mayor Hightownsel continued. “Once you build these courts, they’re constantly in use. It was only logical for Sherwood to fully embrace this trend.”
The courts, equipped with lighting, bathrooms, and water stations, cater to both daytime and nighttime play, ensuring accessibility for all residents. This initiative not only promotes physical activity but also enhances community engagement, building a vibrant social atmosphere.
To celebrate the new facilities, local reporter Hayden engaged in a friendly rematch on the courts with Mayor Hightownsel. The spirited match showcased the enthusiasm surrounding pickleball in Sherwood, with both participants delivering spirited volleys amidst cheers from onlookers.
As Hayden quipped to viewers, “These courts are a game-changer for Sherwood. It’s all about community and fun, whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a paddle for the first time.”
