WATA’s Free Youth Pickleball Program Provides Paddles and Safety to Kids

WATA’s Free Youth Pickleball Program: Young players and instructors gathered to celebrate the successful completion of a free youth pickleball program in Winona. Sponsored by the Winona Area Tennis/Pickleball Association (WATA), the lessons provided local children with skills, equipment, and safety awareness, thanks to support from the Morrie Miller Youth Sports Foundation and the Goodview Activities Committee.

Free Lessons Introduce Kids to Fast-Growing Sport

The program, organized by WATA, aimed to introduce pickleball to young players by providing professional instruction and hands-on learning. Participants received guidance from experienced WATA teaching professionals and board members, learning essential game fundamentals and strategies.

Beyond gameplay, safety remained a key focus. Kids were taught the importance of wearing eye protection while playing, a precaution emphasized by instructors to ensure safe participation in the sport.

Additionally, all participants were given paddles, allowing them to continue playing beyond the lessons.

Support from Local Organizations

The Morrie Miller Youth Sports Foundation and the Goodview Activities Committee played a crucial role in making the program accessible to all.

Their sponsorship allowed the lessons to remain free, helping eliminate financial barriers for families interested in getting their children involved in pickleball.

By investing in youth sports programs like this, these organizations continue to promote active lifestyles and community engagement among young athletes in Winona.

Growing Interest in Pickleball Among Youth

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, and its popularity among younger players is increasing. Programs like WATA’s initiative help introduce children to the sport at an early age, fostering a new generation of players who may continue competing recreationally or competitively.

By providing structured lessons and proper equipment, WATA aims to ensure that kids have the resources needed to develop their skills and enjoy the game for years to come.
