Bowling Green Outdoor Pickleball Courts: Pickleball players in Bowling Green will soon have access to outdoor pickleball courts. After nearly three years of planning, construction is set to begin on eight new courts next to the BG Community Center. The courts are expected to be completed by the end of June, with a tentative opening near July 4.
The project received significant interest, with five construction bids submitted. Geddis Paving and Excavation of Toledo won the bid with an offer of $640,000. Initially, the plan called for six courts, but the bid allowed for eight courts with lighting. The courts will be located on the Haskins Road side of the community center.
New Courts to Enhance Pickleball Access
The outdoor pickleball facility will include lighting, a shelter house, seating, and fencing around the courts. The courts will be open during daylight hours in the warmer months, giving local players a dedicated outdoor space.
Currently, Bowling Green residents travel to Perrysburg, Holland, and Findlay for outdoor pickleball. The only courts in the city are inside the community center, where space is shared with youth sports, fitness classes, and National Guard activities.
The project has been backed by the BG Parks and Recreation Foundation and local pickleball players, who have raised over $100,000. The city also contributed $150,000 in ARPA funding to kickstart the effort.
Growing Popularity of Pickleball in Bowling Green
Pickleball has gained traction in Bowling Green, drawing 30 to 40 players to the indoor courts each weekday morning. The sport, which is played on smaller courts than tennis, offers a quick and accessible game for all ages and skill levels. Games typically last 10 to 15 minutes, making it easy for players to rotate and participate without long wait times.
With the new courts, local players will no longer need to travel to play outdoors. The addition of these courts is expected to further boost the sport’s popularity in the community.
News in Brief: Bowling Green Outdoor Pickleball Courts
Bowling Green is set to open eight outdoor pickleball courts by July 2025, providing a new space for local players. The $640,000 project includes lighting, seating, and fencing.
Funded by the city and community donations, the courts will enhance access to the growing sport and eliminate the need for residents to travel to nearby cities to play.
