Monmouth Welcomes New Pickleball Courts: Monmouth’s new pickleball courts at Monmouth Recreational Park (MRP) are already proving to be a big hit. The two recently opened courts have drawn excitement from local players, adding to the growing popularity of the sport.
Community Embraces New Courts
Pickleball, a blend of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton, has been the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. since 2016. The new courts provide a much-needed space for local players to enjoy the game.
Courts Still Await Final Touches
While fully playable, the courts are not yet complete. Final coatings, concrete skirting, benches, and landscaping are expected to be added this spring.
Despite these finishing touches, Johnson reassured players that the courts are “100 percent playable.”
Park Enhancements and Expansion Plans
In addition to the pickleball courts, Monmouth Recreational Park is set to receive new restrooms, benches, picnic tables, and a boardwalk through the wetlands. The boardwalk, which will be elevated over natural wetlands, will serve as a spot for birdwatching and environmental education about native plants.
Future Pickleball Expansion Possible
With pickleball’s rising popularity, resurfacing the park’s tennis courts for dual use is being considered. The existing tennis courts remain just south of the dog park.
Grand Opening Planned for Spring
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is tentatively scheduled for this spring, with possible pickleball lessons during the event. Johnson highlighted one of the key reasons Monmouth invested in pickleball: its multi-generational appeal.
Noise Concerns Unlikely
Unlike some communities where pickleball noise has been an issue, Monmouth’s courts were strategically placed to avoid disturbing nearby homes.
Court Access and Hours
The new pickleball courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. They follow the same hours as other Monmouth parks, closing one hour after sunset and reopening at sunrise.
News in Brief: Monmouth Welcomes New Pickleball Courts
Monmouth’s new pickleball courts at Monmouth Recreational Park have quickly become a hit with local players. While the courts are fully playable, final touches like landscaping and benches will be completed this spring. A grand opening is planned, with possible pickleball lessons. The park may also expand pickleball options if demand continues to grow.
