Whippany’s Pickleball Palace to Host Layups 4 Life Charity Event in May 2025

Layups 4 Life Charity Event in May 2025: Layups 4 Life, the cancer-fighting charity founded by Roxbury High School graduate Dan Exter, is embracing the pickleball rise with its first-ever charity pickleball tournament in 2025. The event, set for May 17, 2025, at Pickleball Palace in Whippany, marks a major expansion for the organization, which has raised over $170,000 for cancer research and clinical trials.

Exter, who founded Layups 4 Life after surviving leukemia in 2013, recognized the opportunity to tap into the sport’s rising popularity.

As we continue to grow and expand our fundraising events, we would be remiss to leave out pickleball given the sport’s incredible growth and popularity.” – (Exter)

Why Pickleball?

Pickleball has been the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. for the past four years, attracting players of all ages. Its accessibility, social nature, and rising community growth made it a natural fit for Layups 4 Life’s expanding lineup of fundraising events.

The Pickleball Palace in Whippany was chosen to keep the event local and engage the surging pickleball community in Morris County. The tournament will welcome players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced competitors, all rallying together for a great cause.

More Than Just Pickleball

The pickleball tournament is just one of three major fundraising events for Layups 4 Life in 2025, joining:

  • 5th Annual “Drive Out Cancer” Charity Golf Outing – April 25, 2025 at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.
  • 8th Annual 3v3 Charity Basketball Tournament – September 2025 at Parsippany PAL.

These events reflect Layups 4 Life’s mission to unite communities through sports while raising funds for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
