Kaua’i Expanding Pickleball Facilities: Bryan J. Baptiste Pickleball Courts Set for Major Upgrades

Kaua’i Expanding Pickleball Facilities: The Kaua‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that the dual-use tennis and pickleball courts and basketball courts at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapa‘a will be closed for resurfacing from March 17 through September, weather permitting. The work is part of the county’s $3.1 million Playcourt Resurfacing Project, which aims to improve multiple recreational facilities.

Major Park Renovations Underway

Located at 4536 Olohena Road, the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, also known as Kapa‘a New Park, is one of several sites undergoing renovations under this project. The 18-acre district park includes a Little League field, baseball field, football field, lighted softball field, roller hockey rink, basketball court, and dual-use tennis and pickleball courts.

The park is named after the late Bryan J. Baptiste, who served as Kaua‘i County mayor from 2002 until his passing in 2008. During his tenure, he envisioned transforming the five-decade-old complex into a permanent home field for Kapa‘a High School, a project he initiated in 2006 with support from Leadership Kaua‘i’s adult class and other community members.

Other Park Resurfacing Projects

The Playcourt Resurfacing Project extends beyond the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, with progress at other locations:

  • Wailua Homesteads basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts – Resurfacing complete; courts are open.
  • Wailua Houselots tennis and pickleball courts – Resurfacing finished; courts are open.
  • Wailua Houselots basketball court – Construction ongoing, expected completion by April 9.
  • Pūhi Park tennis and basketball courts – Construction is ongoing, with an expected completion by June 13.

Public Cooperation and Project Updates

The Kaua‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation appreciates the community’s patience during these improvements. Updates on the resurfacing projects will be provided as work progresses.
