Ocracoke Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser: The Ocracoke Community Pool Association (OCPA) will host a pickleball tournament on Saturday, May 3, at the new courts at the end of Horse Pen Road, off Maurice Ballance Road. The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m., with coffee, cinnamon crunch cake, fruit, and more available for participants.
Organized by Melissa DiMarsico, vice president of the OCPA and Ocracoke School PE teacher, the tournament will have four age groups: 13 and under, 14-17, 18-49, and 50 and above. The competition will include three skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. All games will be doubles, and medals will be awarded for first, second, and third places in each age group.
Registration and Entry Fee
The entry fee is $10 per person. Participants can register either online at ocracokepool.org/events or on the day of the event. Players are encouraged to bring their paddles and balls, though some equipment will be available for use.
Fundraising for OCPA and School
The tournament will also serve as a fundraiser for the OCPA. In addition, the fourth grade class will raise money for their class trip by offering a Mexican lunch and bake sale, starting at 11 a.m.
Spectators and Parking
Spectators are welcome, though parking at the courts is limited. Additional parking is available along Maurice Ballance Road, which is off Middle Road. The rain date for the tournament is Sunday, May 4.
New Courts Open to Public
The Ocracoke community has been enjoying access to the new tennis and pickleball courts, which opened last year. The courts are open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset, providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
OCPA’s Mission and Goals
The OCPA was formed three years ago to address the need for a public swimming pool in Ocracoke. The organization aims to provide a safe place for swim lessons, exercise, and rehabilitation programs. Fundraising efforts are ongoing to acquire land for future community projects.
