The Picklr’s Houston Pickleball Facilities: The Picklr, a national pickleball franchise, is opening two new indoor facilities in the Houston area—one in Cypress and another in The Woodlands. These new locations aim to meet the rising demand for the fast-growing sport and build a stronger community around it.
Pickleball’s Growing Popularity
Pickleball has become one of the most popular sports in the U.S. It grew quickly during the pandemic when people looked for safe, group-friendly activities. Though similar to tennis, pickleball is easier to play due to its smaller courts, lighter paddles, and slower balls.
The sport now has nearly 5 million players across the country. While it once attracted mostly older adults, younger players under 24 now make up the largest group. Houston also has a professional team called the Hammers.
Facility Details and Features
The Cypress facility will be located at 8920 Barker Cypress, in the former ASI Gymnastics building. It will feature six courts, including one practice court. Steve Nguyen, owner of The Picklr Cypress, shared his vision for the space.
“Bringing a pickleball facility to Cypress will not only provide a fun and engaging recreational outlet for residents of all ages, but will also foster a sense of community and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.” – (Steve Nguyen)
“This facility will serve as a vibrant hub for social interaction, skill development, and friendly/competitive competition, enhancing community bonds and offering a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.” – (Steve Nguyen)
The Woodlands location will be much larger, with 20 courts inside a 66,517-square-foot building at 16590 Interstate I-45 South. It will include four private event rooms, one with a viewing deck, plus showers, a changing room, dry bar, and kitchenette.
Membership and Access
The Picklr operates on a monthly membership plan like a gym. Adult memberships cost $159, and minor memberships cost $89. Members get unlimited open play, league games, tournaments, and four free clinics each month. Extra coaching is also offered.
These two locations will be The Picklr’s first in Houston. The franchise already has 12 sites in Texas and many others nationwide. There is no confirmed opening date yet. Interested players can sign up for updates at ThePicklr.com.
Why This Matters
The Picklr’s arrival adds more courts and opportunities for players in a city where interest in the sport continues to rise. These new venues may also help reduce crowding and bring in new players of all ages. With professional teams and recreational leagues growing fast, pickleball is becoming a major part of Houston’s sports culture.
