Pickleball Courts at St Cloud Country Club: $1.5 Million Renovation

Pickleball Courts at St Cloud Country Club: In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to both tradition and innovation, St. Cloud Country Club (SCCC) has unveiled an extensive renovation project that merges luxury with modernity. The culmination of two years of planning and nearly $1.5 million in investments, these enhancements mark a transformative era for the club, celebrating its legacy while adapting to contemporary recreational demands.

The Renaissance of a Classic

The St. Cloud Country Club, situated on the serene west bank of the Mississippi River in southern St. Cloud, has long been a bastion of golfing tradition. Since its founding in 1911, the club has cultivated a reputation for its 18-hole golf course, practice green, driving range, and welcoming clubhouse. This summer, however, the club has embarked on a bold renovation journey, making significant strides in both facility upgrades and new amenities.

At the heart of this transformation are the newly opened pickleball courts, a move reflective of the sport’s soaring popularity across the United States. Officially unveiled on June 22, the courts have quickly become a focal point of the club’s recreational offerings. The installation, funded by an anonymous donation of approximately $500,000, replaces previously underutilized tennis courts, signaling a shift in preference towards the fast-growing sport. Denise Lenaghan, the club’s General Manager, noted the high traffic on these courts, emphasizing their immediate impact on club activities and making them the nearest pickleball courts available for many local enthusiasts.

A Broader Revamp

The pickleball courts are only one part of a larger renovation strategy. In April, the club debuted several major upgrades including revamped locker rooms, a modernized pro shop, and new office spaces. A digital golf simulator, housed in what was once a basement office, further underscores the club’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its offerings. This simulator, installed by Rice Companies of Sauk Rapids, utilizes infrared, Doppler radar, and high-resolution cameras to provide players with an immersive, data-rich golfing experience. Brady Engen, the club pro, highlighted its role in both club fittings and as a resource for members during off-season periods.

The club’s dining facilities have also undergone a transformation with the rebranding of its restaurant to The View. This new name reflects the revitalized ambiance and the picturesque setting enjoyed by members. Additional enhancements include a new patio added in 2022, which, combined with the club’s social nights and regular events, has revitalized the club’s community spirit.

Community and Growth

The renovations at SCCC are a testament to the club’s strong sense of community and the generosity of its members. The funding for the interior upgrades and the pickleball courts was made possible through substantial gifts from anonymous member families, highlighting the club’s robust internal support system. Lenaghan, who took on her role in March 2023 after managing Granite City Food and Brewery, has spearheaded these changes with an emphasis on expanding membership and improving facilities.

The club’s new amenities are not only a nod to modern recreational trends but also an effort to attract a broader membership base. Members now drive from distant locales like Maple Lake and Willmar to enjoy the enhanced offerings at SCCC, demonstrating the club’s growing appeal.

A New Era for St. Cloud

As SCCC continues to evolve, it embraces a blend of tradition and innovation, ensuring that its rich history is complemented by contemporary amenities. The integration of pickleball courts, alongside state-of-the-art facilities and a refreshed dining experience, positions the club as a forward-thinking institution committed to meeting the evolving needs of its members.

With over a dozen golf courses within a half-hour drive of St. Cloud and only one other private club in the region, SCCC’s enhancements offer a compelling proposition for both existing and prospective members. The club’s efforts reflect a broader trend in the sports and recreation industry, where inclusivity and modern amenities are increasingly central to the membership experience.
