McGaw Pickleball Skills Session: A special pickleball skills and drills session focused on volleys was held on July 16, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McGaw Pickleball Court #6 in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. The event was designed for players with skill levels between 3.0 and 3.99 and was led by instructors Len Widra and Yogesh Srivastava.
This session, part of the CAPA – Skills & Drills series, provided participants a chance to improve their volley techniques. Players also had to agree to the CAPA Participant Waiver to take part in the training.
Training for Intermediate Players
The two-hour clinic followed a “jamboree format” that covered four key skills: the drop and drive shots, movement through the transition zone, non-volley zone strategy, and improving hand speed. The format allowed attendees to rotate through focused skill stations with guidance from skilled instructors.
The event was organized by volunteers from the McGaw Pickleball Advisory Committee, a local group that helps run pickleball programs and supports the growing community of players in Fitchburg.
Community Members Encouraged to Join
The McGaw Pickleball Advisory Committee is currently looking for new members. Volunteers help maintain the courts, work with the Fitchburg Parks Department, support beginner coaching, and run events like this skills session.
“Love pickleball? Want to be part of the growing Fitchburg Pickleball community? MPAC is looking for volunteers!” the committee announced.
More Learning Opportunities Ahead
While the learning objectives for this session were still marked “pending,” players benefited from hands-on coaching and peer learning throughout the session. Similar events may be offered in the future to keep skill-building going strong for all experience levels.
