Greenbrier Commons Pickleball Court Renovation: Parma Heights is planning to update and expand its pickleball courts at Greenbrier Commons. The city has applied for a $50,000 grant from the Cuyahoga County Community Development Supplemental Grant program to help cover the $70,000 project cost. Construction is expected to start in spring 2026.
Why the Project Is Needed
Mayor Marie Gallo explained that interest in pickleball is growing quickly.
“The demand for pickleball is growing,”. “We have leagues that want to play there as well.”(Marie Gallo)
She also noted that the courts need repairs.
“The current courts need to be fixed, resurfaced and updated.”
The courts were first installed in 2017 and have worn down over time. Joe Sebus, director of community and economic development, explained that the weather has affected the surface.
“The sun weathers everything and the courts are usable, but the surfaces aren’t smooth anymore,”. “It’s a vinyl surface that’s on there, and after so many years, you have to attack that. It’s at that stage now where we need to get it redone.”(Joe Sebus)
What the Project Includes
In addition to resurfacing the current courts, the plan adds one new court in a different direction to improve space and play options.
If the city does not receive the grant, Mayor Marie Gallo said the work may be added to the 2026 capital budget.
“We’re cautiously optimistic that we will get grant funding,”. “But if we don’t get it, our Plan B would be to go to council for approval as a capital project for next year.”(Marie Gallo)
She added that the park is an important place for both locals and visitors.
“Greenbrier Commons is a gem. There’s a lot of foot traffic there. We want to make sure that those pickleball courts are brought up to speed for our residents and members outside of our community.”
Other Nearby Repairs
Mayor Marie Gallo also spoke about the nearby tennis court fence, which was damaged in a recent storm. Repairs may cost up to $15,000 and will take a few more months to complete.
“Our residents and community are extremely understanding that we had a storm that came through there,”. “They’re being very patient.”(Mayor Marie Gallo)
