Braveheart Bulliez Rescue PicklePAWS Tournament: On August 16, the Braveheart Bulliez Rescue PicklePAWS Tournament at DeKalb Tennis Center in North Decatur brought together players, volunteers, and community members to raise more than $3,000 for dogs in need.
Purpose of the Event
The fundraiser supported Braveheart Bulliez Rescue, a group that focuses on helping abused and neglected dogs. Founder Carolyn O’Brien explained the reason behind the event.
Today is a pickleball tournament fundraiser to help us rescue more dogs. We lean into more of these severely abused and neglected dogs,
which are typically the bully breeds. Although we are not breed-specific, we are 95 percent bully breeds, primarily pit bulls.”(Carolyn O’Brien)
O’Brien also said the funds are vital for providing medical care, rehabilitation, supplies, collars, leashes, and other essentials so the dogs can be ready for adoption.

Community Support
About 60 players competed in the tournament. Vendors sold food, coffee, dog food, and jewelry, while volunteers made sure the event ran smoothly.
Organizers praised the efforts of the community and Anne Clarke, who helped plan and manage the tournament.
“From the players who hit the courts, to our amazing volunteers who kept everything running smoothly, to Anne Clarke who worked tirelessly to organize and run the tournament — we are beyond grateful,” (organizers shared).
Why It Matters
The $3,000 raised will go directly toward helping more dogs find safety, care, and permanent homes. The tournament not only raised money but also highlighted the ongoing need to support rescue efforts for vulnerable animals.
