Whidbey Island Pickleball Enthusiasts Gears Up: Pickleball enthusiasts on Whidbey Island are in for an eventful week, with opportunities to contribute to court designs and witness professional play in action.

On Wednesday, June 12, at 6 p.m., a community meeting at the South Whidbey Community Center in Langley will unveil initial concepts for six outdoor courts planned by South Whidbey Parks and Recreation. Led by an architect, the meeting invites feedback from players eager to shape the future of pickleball in their community. These courts, slated for construction in 2025 at the South Whidbey Sports Complex on Langley Road, promise enhancements such as sheltered areas with tables, a hitting wall, and at least one ADA-friendly para-pickleball court.

Excitement continues on Sunday, June 16, as the Whidbey Pickle Barn in Freeland hosts professional players Lindsey and Riley Newman for an exhibition from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. The siblings, renowned in the pickleball world, will demonstrate their expertise by dissecting points, offering insights on shot selection, and even engaging local players in friendly challenges.

Abi Tschetter, co-owner of the Whidbey Pickle Barn, along with her husband, Paul, invites both members and non-members to witness the action, with registration priced at $45 and $50, respectively. Attendees can also partake in open play across all skill levels during the final hour, with prizes and games adding to the festive atmosphere.
