Ellisville Pickleball Club Greenlit: Ambitious Plans Unveiled

Ellisville Pickleball Club Greenlit: On Wednesday, July 17, the Ellisville City Council convened to discuss the future of two businesses aiming to set up shop along Manchester Road. The standout proposal came from Michael Grewe, owner of Missouri Pickleball Club and head of Grewe Sports LLC, who plans to breathe new life into the long-vacant Shop ‘n Save at 15446 Manchester Road. This site has been empty since November 19, 2018, according to City Manager Bill Schwer.

Grewe’s vision extends beyond just sports; he’s applying for a conditional use permit (CUP) for liquor sales at the venue. Emphasizing a controlled and respectful environment, Grewe assured the council, “The last thing I want is anyone getting drunk, anyone body-shaming people, anyone commenting on the way someone looks or anything like that. That’s not the vibe of our facility.”

Evolving Demographics and Community Concerns

Discussing the club’s demographic, Grewe noted a significant shift. “The average age now is about 36; it just keeps skewing down,” he explained. Despite unanimous support for Grewe’s presentation, council member Rob Compton (Ward 1) highlighted lingering issues regarding the condition and prolonged vacancy of the Shop ‘n Save center. “This center hasn’t been brought into any compliance for four years,” Compton remarked. Nevertheless, Grewe remains optimistic, aiming to open the Ellisville branch of Missouri Pickleball Club by November 2024.
