Pickleball Courts Populating New Communities Across Delaware

Pickleball Courts Populating New Communities: As Delaware communities continue to evolve and expand, pickleball courts have become a sought-after feature in new developments and revived neighborhoods. This trend reflects the growing popularity of the sport, driven by increasing public demand and its appealing characteristics. From Lewes to Milton, new and future communities are integrating dedicated pickleball facilities, enhancing their recreational offerings and responding to residents’ preferences.

Public Demand Drives Court Installations

The surge in pickleball court installations is primarily fueled by public interest. Jeff Evans, sales and marketing director at Carl M. Freeman Companies, noted that recent home expos revealed a clear preference among potential buyers.

“No one who was there to learn about new developments asked about tennis. They wanted to know about designated pickleball courts because they all thought it’s much more fun and because they weren’t as sore after playing pickleball as with other sports.” – (Evans)

This shift highlights pickleball’s appeal, offering a less strenuous alternative to tennis while still delivering a satisfying athletic experience.

The Sport’s Accessibility and Appeal

Pickleball’s rising popularity can be attributed to its accessibility and ease of learning. Unlike tennis, pickleball uses a slower-moving, plastic ball and simpler strokes, making it easier for players to pick up quickly. The smaller court size means less running and fewer complex maneuvers, which contributes to its appeal for all casual players and those looking to stay active without intense physical strain. As a result, pickleball provides a fun, social, and effective way to stay fit, appealing to a broad demographic.

Growing Number of Courts Nationwide

The increasing number of pickleball courts is evident nationwide. According to the USA Pickleball Association, there are approximately 4.8 million players across the country. An article in Architectural Digest noted that pickleball courts have now surpassed golf courses as the hottest sports amenity in high-end developments. Furthermore, the Sports & Fitness Industry Association reported a 21.3 percent rise in pickleball players in 2019, showing the sport’s rapid growth.

News in Brief: Pickleball Courts Populating New Communities

With the sport’s surging popularity, it’s no surprise that more Delaware communities are embracing pickleball by incorporating courts into their recreational amenities. As developers and residents recognize the benefits of pickleball, from its accessibility to its social and fitness advantages, we can expect to see even more communities adding this sought-after feature.

Whether in new neighborhoods or revived areas, pickleball courts are set to become a staple in Delaware’s landscape, reflecting the sport’s widespread appeal and enduring charm.
