Ross Park Pickleball Courts Opening Postponed: The highly anticipated grand opening of the Con Gilmore Pickleball Courts at Ross Park has been postponed following unexpected heavy rains that damaged the courts’ freshly applied top layer. The delay comes after the contractor had nearly completed the acrylic surface application late Monday night.
Rain Hits at a Crucial Moment
Anne Butler, the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Pocatello, described the situation: “Our contractor was finishing the acrylic surface last night–just as he finished the final coat of the green on the outside the skies opened up and started to drop a lot of rain.” The sudden downpour caused the surface to run, which will impede the curing process and render the courts unplayable until repairs are made.
“It started to run, which is not going to help us cure and really kind of makes it unplayable until we get it fixed.” – (Anne Butler)
Repairs and Revised Timeline
Butler confirmed that the project contractor is currently procuring additional supplies to address the damage. While there is no revised date for the grand opening yet, Butler expressed hope that repairs will be completed within the next couple of weeks.
Community Disappointment
“I know a lot of people are disappointed. I’m disappointed, but hopefully we can get this fixed in a pretty quick fashion and get things moving for everybody.” – (Anne Butler)
The community’s eagerness for the new courts remains high, and the city aims to resolve the issues swiftly to meet public expectations.
