Pickleball Smash Clinics at Worcester: Berlin-based Pickleball group PKLN is gearing up to host a Pickleball Smash clinic on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Worcester Preparatory School’s courts. This free event is designed for newcomers eager to learn the sport’s basics, refine their techniques, and engage in friendly matches with community members. The clinic will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with paddles and balls provided for all attendees.
Event Features and Upcoming Plans
PKLN founder Mike O’Malley has highlighted that the clinic will follow the format of the August 1 event, which saw around 30 participants. This session will feature local vendors providing food and refreshments, and a curated music playlist to enhance the atmosphere. A giveaway, determined by competitions rather than random drawings, is also planned.
“We might have coaches come up with a game and see who the best player is. There are so many games we want to try, like Pickle Pong.” – (O’Malley)
Expanding Pickleball Outreach
The organization plans to rotate clinic locations across Delmarva, targeting towns such as Delaware, Chincoteague, and areas on the Virginia shore.
O’Malley noted, “We are trying to appeal to a younger crowd… all of Delmarva will be our initial target.” This expansion reflects PKLN’s mission to spread pickleball throughout the region.
About PKLN and Future Events
PKLN, founded earlier this year, aims to increase pickleball’s presence in Berlin and the broader Delmarva area. The group plans to continue its community smash clinics, host a charity tournament in October, and expand further in 2025. Information about the program can be found on PKLN’s website, pklnpickleball.com, and their social media platforms.
Pickleball, recognized as the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., has seen a 158.6% increase in participation over the last three years.
“There is an ease and appeal of getting out there, and in the outdoors, with people you love having fun. It is easy for anyone to pick up… It gets you hooked.” – (O’Malley)
