Athens’s Free Adaptive Pickleball League: The Athens Community Center will be a hub of activity this fall, offering adaptive sports programs designed to be inclusive and engaging for individuals with disabilities. The weekly Adaptive Pickleball league will begin on Friday, September 6, running through November 22. This recreational league, open to anyone aged 8 and up, will take place every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is free to participate.
The league aims to provide an enjoyable and supportive environment for players of all skill levels to engage in pickleball, a sport known for its accessibility and fast-paced action. The initiative reflects the growing popularity of adaptive sports and the commitment to expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
In addition to pickleball, SOCIL (Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living) is hosting two Open Gyms for adaptive sports. Scheduled for August 23 and 30, these sessions will run from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the same location. Participants can explore various sports, including cornhole, boccia, basketball, and football, all in a recreational setting designed to promote fun and physical activity.
The Open Gyms are also free of charge and provide a chance for individuals to learn about and enjoy different sports. The events aim to foster community engagement and encourage active lifestyles among participants.
