Washington Hosts Pickleball Charity Event to Fight Dementia

Washington Hosts Pickleball: On Saturday, Washington took a significant step in the fight against dementia with a charitable pickleball event at the Athletic Edge Sports Complex. This gathering drew participants from across Beaufort County and even as far away as New Bern, showcasing a range of skill levels from true beginners to seasoned experts.

The event was a resounding success, attracting 43 players who demonstrated their skills on the court. Beyond the game itself, attendees had the chance to engage in silent auctions and raffles, adding an extra layer of excitement and community involvement to the day. With the support of a dedicated committee and generous sponsors, the event raised over $5,700 for the Dementia Alliance of North Carolina.

Pickleball is growing fast in popularity around the nation,” said event spokesperson Pam Rice. “It is a game that is not only fun and a great way to stay fit, but also very social as was evident in the turnout we had for the event. We hope to be able to continue this fundraiser to help benefit those who suffer from dementia, Alzheimer’s, and many other aging brain diseases.

The Athletic Edge Sports Complex provided an ideal venue for the event, accommodating the various skill levels of participants and fostering a sense of camaraderie among attendees. The turnout underscored pickleball’s appeal as a sport that is both enjoyable and accessible to a wide audience.

The success of this event highlights the potential for sports to serve as a powerful tool for raising awareness and funds for important causes. The funds raised will directly support the Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, aiding in their mission to provide resources, support, and research funding to combat dementia and related diseases.

As pickleball continues to surge in popularity nationwide, events like this not only promote physical fitness and social interaction but also demonstrate the sport’s capacity to bring communities together for a greater good. The organizers and participants of the Washington event have set a high standard, showcasing the impact that a well-coordinated community effort can have in supporting vital health causes.

Looking ahead, the hope is that this pickleball charity event will become an annual tradition, continually drawing support and raising funds to benefit those affected by dementia and other brain diseases.
