New Pickleball Dome in Highland Park Set to Open This Winter

New Pickleball Dome in Highland Park: Highland Park is gearing up to welcome a state-of-the-art domed facility this winter, despite a slight delay from initial projections. The Park District of Highland Park’s new venue, named Club Pickle and Padel, is set to offer year-round play for pickleball and padel enthusiasts.

Spanning 50,000 square feet, the facility will feature 10 pickleball courts, four padel courts, and a range of amenities including a reception area, gear and concession sales, and restrooms.

Replacing an Outdated Dome

The new facility is designed to replace a 15-year-old dome that had reached the end of its useful life. According to Nick Baird, director of recreation for the Park District, the old dome had been managed by the district on City of Highland Park land and had served as an athletic complex. The replacement is expected to meet the growing demand for indoor sports facilities in the area.

Inclusive and State-of-the-Art

Park District Executive Director Brian Romes emphasized the inclusive nature of Club Pickle and Padel, stating,

“In keeping with the character of the park district, Club Pickle and Padel will be an extraordinary destination where residents and players of all ages and abilities feel welcome.” – (Brian Romes)

“This new facility has been designed to create an inclusive hub, with state-of-the-art amenities, where pickleball and padel enthusiasts, as well as the curious newcomers, can gather, meet, compete, and learn to play the world’s fastest growing sports.” – (Brian Romes)

The facility will operate from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

Community and Funding Support

The $4.2 million project has garnered significant support from Highland Park native Ron Saslow, who donated $2 million towards its development. The remaining funds are being raised through the Parks Foundation of Highland Park, individual and business donors, and sponsors. Saslow expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting,

“Pickleball is a sport that brings people together. It’s easy to learn, it’s a very social game, and I’m thrilled to be able to help bring a state-of-the-art facility to the community I love.” – (Saslow)
