Manning’s Crazy Pickleball Tournament Set to Support Park Revamp

Manning’s Crazy Pickleball Tournament: This Saturday, the Manning Rec Center will be buzzing with activity as it hosts the inaugural Crazy Eight Pickleball Tournament. The event aims to raise funds for significant upgrades to Manning City Park. Since 2022, city officials and the Manning Park Improvement Committee have been spearheading efforts to replace outdated equipment and enhance park facilities to ensure safety and improve the community experience.

Organizers and Goals

Jean Stradlander and Karen Herreman, both active members of the Beautification Committee for Manning, have championed the establishment of a pickleball group in the community. Their initiative promotes the sport and supports fundraising efforts for the park, which will feature a new pickleball court.

Tournament Details

Registration remains open for those eager to participate. Interested players can sign up by contacting the Manning Rec Center at 712-655-3861. The tournament will feature two divisions: a competitive bracket starting at 7:30 a.m. for seasoned players and a recreational bracket commencing at 12:30 p.m. for those who play for fun. Each participant will pay a $50 fee, which includes a t-shirt, and will be paired with different competitors throughout the event. Winners from both divisions will receive prizes.

Spectators are welcome to attend and support the event, with concession stands and t-shirt sales supporting the next phase of the city park project. Stradlander also mentioned the availability of pickleball lessons for those interested in joining this rapidly growing sport.
