National Mall of Pickleball Ruined By Adverse Weather, New Times Announced

National Mall of Pickleball Ruined By Adverse Weather: In a disappointing turn of events for pickleball fans, the eagerly awaited matches at the National Mall of Pickleball have been postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Organizers confirmed that the Media Match has been rescheduled for 4 PM on Saturday, while the DMV pickleball Tournament will now take place at 8 AM on Sunday.

“We are closely monitoring the weather and have rescheduled the Media Match for 4 PM on Saturday and the DMV Tournament for 8 AM on Sunday. We are doing our best to accommodate play, while keeping everyone safe, so court or clinic reservations for this afternoon are still on, weather permitting.” – (organizers)

Future Communication and Event Details

Fans and attendees are encouraged to stay informed about the event through email updates or by following the organizers on Instagram and their website. Originally set to run from September 27 to September 29, 2024, the National Mall of Pickleball has attracted a considerable following, and the anticipation for this year’s theme, “One for the Ages,” remains high.

Expanded Facilities and Registration Success

To accommodate the growing interest, event officials have expanded the venue this year. Following last year’s sell-out, the addition of two new courts brings the total to nine available for play. Notably, players from D.C.’s professional pickleball team (DCPT), including Dekel Bar, Rachel Rohrabacher, James Ignatowich, and Allyce Jones, will be present to engage with fans and competitors.

The rush to register has been impressive, with officials reporting over 400 registrations within the first 45 minutes after reservations opened on Wednesday at noon.

Community Impact and Engagement

Catherine Townsend, President and CEO of the Trust for the National Mall, expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s event.

“We are thrilled to host the second annual National Mall of Pickleball and once again welcome thousands of picklers and fans to the National Mall. We are grateful to our committed and innovative partners at Humana who, through the National Mall of Pickleball, are bringing the game for everyone to the place.” – (Catherine Townsend)

Townsend further emphasized the importance of the event.

“There’s no better way, and no better place to celebrate pickleball and the importance of connection across generations than the National Mall. We welcome all to come experience this unique event and find out ways to give back to support our work to restore, preserve, and enrich this treasured American space for generations to come.” – (Catherine Townsend)
