Picklr’s Grand Opening Rocks Mount Prospect: A Smashing Success

Picklr’s Grand Opening Rocks Mount Prospect: The Picklr in Mount Prospect celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, drawing a crowd of eager players and spectators. Located at 211 W. Rand Road, this new indoor pickleball facility is part of a growing trend in the suburbs, joining the ranks of other recently opened Picklrs in Villa Park and Mundelein.

A Game for Everyone

Franchise owner Ron Weiland highlighted the sport’s accessibility as a key factor in its rising popularity.

“It’s a social game, and it’s easy to play, so people that have never played any racket sports at all can pick it up and start playing within 10 minutes just learning the rules.” – (Ron Weiland)

The smaller court size and slower-moving ball compared to tennis allow individuals of various athletic abilities to compete comfortably.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The Mount Prospect Picklr stands out as the national chain’s largest location, boasting 14 regulation courts housed within a former Fresh Thyme Market grocery store. It offers additional amenities such as spaces for corporate and private events, a member’s lounge, separate locker rooms for men and women, and a pro shop. Notably, the facility has acquired a license to sell beer, wine, and hard seltzers.

“What we wanted to do with this one is make it more of a club feel.” – (Weiland)

A Welcoming Community

Among the first players on opening day was Long Grove resident Allen Roiter, who noted, “People of all ages can play.” He emphasized the sport’s quick learning curve. Deerfield resident Marlene Domash echoed this sentiment, stating,

“It’s a great game, because you can go by yourself and just rack up and find a game anytime you want. You don’t need a bunch of people with you. You just go, you meet a lot of people and play different skill levels.” – (Marlene Domash)

Convenient Hours

The Picklr operates daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, with Weiland confirming, “The only day we’re closed is Christmas.” After the grand opening promotions conclude, memberships will be available for $139 per month or $1,390 annually, which includes two free months and access to leagues and tournaments. Additionally, the facility offers four free clinics monthly, fostering a sense of community and skill development among players.
