Thriller Awaits at a Billion Dollar Pickleball Facility in San Angelo!

Pickleball Facility in San Angelo: San Angelo is set to welcome a new gem for sports lovers and foodies. Smashers, a multimillion-dollar pickleball complex, along with a restaurant and bar, is on the horizon at 2521 Southwest Blvd. J.C. Gallagher, a local entrepreneur, is eagerly awaiting the necessary city permits to kick off construction.

Investment in Community Recreation

According to the City of San Angelo’s permits and inspections report from September 2024, the estimated cost for this ambitious project is around $5 million. Gallagher shared that this investment will cover a sprawling 33,000-square-foot facility packed with amenities designed for all ages. The Smashers website outlines the features of the complex, which will include:

  • Seven indoor pickleball courts
  • Two outdoor pickleball courts
  • One indoor tennis court
  • A full bar
  • A restaurant
  • Over 10,000 square feet of outdoor space, including a playground with a kid’s playscape

A Menu for Everyone

The restaurant is planned to provide a “fast casual” dining experience, serving up a variety of delicious options like sandwiches, pizzas, and salads.

The menu is expected to feature appetizers, handheld sandwiches, salad bowls, power bowls, and personal pizzas, catering to athletes and families looking for a quick meal.

Inspired by a Love for the Game

The idea for Smashers originated when Gallagher and his wife discovered pickleball during a breast cancer awareness tournament at Bentwood Country Club in October 2023. The couple recognized the need for an indoor pickleball facility, especially as winter approached, limiting outdoor play.

With a business plan in hand, Gallagher shared the vision with friends who own businesses in the area. Their enthusiasm and willingness to support the project helped pave the way for its development.

Looking Ahead to Summer 2025

Gallagher hopes to open Smashers by mid to late summer 2025, though he emphasizes that there is no rush to complete the project. The focus remains on ensuring that everything is done correctly and to the highest standard.

A Vision for the Future

As the anticipated opening date approaches, Gallagher envisions the positive impact Smashers will have on the community. He aims to attract major tournaments, providing a venue for players of all skill levels and expanding recreational opportunities for residents of San Angelo.

Whether residents are looking for a fun game of pickleball or a tasty meal, Smashers is gearing up to meet the community’s needs and become a popular destination for sports and dining.
