Chong Kim’s Pickleball Journey for Mental Health Serves As Reminder of How Sports Transforms Lives!

Chong Kim’s Pickleball Journey : Chong Kim is embarking on a remarkable journey across the United States, playing pickleball in every state to raise awareness for mental health. As the fastest-growing sport in the country, pickleball serves as the perfect backdrop for Kim’s mission, which was born from personal tragedy in his hometown league.

A Personal Mission

After the sudden loss of a close friend, Kim realized that pickleball was about more than just competition. “This is pickleball. This is what pickleball really is. It’s not about how good you are, or what level of player you are. It’s about the community,” Kim shared. This revelation fueled his passion and commitment to spread joy and awareness, leading him to create a schedule that includes all 50 states. North Dakota marks his 18th stop on this heartfelt journey.

The Joy of the Game

I can go play with a 12-year-old, or I can go play with a 72-year-old, and I have just as much fun,” Kim remarked, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the sport. No matter the age or skill level, there is always someone ready to hit the court. “This sport is here to stay. I can tell you that for sure; I’ve seen the growth. Like I said, I go randomly to any city in the United States, and I can find a pickleball court,” he added, underscoring the sport’s increasing popularity.

Community Matters

Kim believes that Texas stands out as the best state for pickleball, but he also recognizes the essential role of community leaders in building the sport everywhere. In Mandan, North Dakota, the Mandan Tennis Center serves as a hub for local pickleball activities. “Kids, parents, sometimes even grandparents. And then more and more just friends are getting together as an activity, which is great, because that’s what we want to do. We want to provide the wellness. We want to provide the racquet sport activity, whether it’s tennis or pickleball, and have people come in and enjoy themselves,” said Tracy Porter, president of the Mandan Tennis Center. The excitement surrounding pickleball in Mandan is a testament to the sport’s ability to unite people.

As Kim continues his journey, he aims to conclude it in his home state of Texas by November 12, solidifying his commitment to both the game and the cause.
