Florence Pickleball Club’s Halloween Fun: On Tuesday, the Florence Pickleball Club turned their courts into a whimsical Halloween wonderland, as members fully embraced the spooky season by dressing up as witches. This spirited celebration created an enchanting atmosphere, where the joy of pickleball—one of the fastest-growing racquet sports—blended seamlessly with the festive magic of Halloween.

Karen Elender, a member of the club, expressed the joy behind this fun initiative. “You see cities where witches do a ride. Or a pitch walk. Parades. We just thought it would be fun to come out to the courts and dress up as witches,” she said.

Community and Growth

The Florence Pickleball Club boasts a membership of approximately 300 players, with around 50 joining in on the dress-like-a-witch day. This sense of community is further emphasized by the club’s mission, which highlights its commitment to promoting the sport in the Greater Florence Area.

According to their website, “The Florence Pickleball Club (FPC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to developing pickleball in the Greater Florence Area. We provide free introduction to pickleball clinics for those interested, be it an individual or an organization. We have a Board of Directors as well as Covenants which we operate by. We are civic-minded in that we provide volunteers for a wide variety of community activities and donate to several local charities.

The club continues to grow, now boasting over 160 registered pickleball players. They welcome participants from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared passion for one of the fastest-growing sports in America, which saw around 8 million players by the end of 2018.
