New Pickleball Facility in Toledo Set to Make Waves Of Fun And Excitement on the Banks of Maumee River

New Pickleball Facility in Toledo: As construction progresses on Water Street in Toledo’s historic Vistula District, the vibrant mural adorning the exterior of a new entertainment hub stands as a beacon of what’s to come. Stretching 140 feet long and 25 feet high, the mural captures a dynamic view of the Maumee River and symbolizes the impending launch of a $4 million pickleball and entertainment facility, which aims to attract at least 400,000 visitors each year.

The Artistic Vision

The big thing was the energy,” said Dean Davis, the Toledo artist behind the mural. He articulated his intention to convey momentum and vitality through the artwork, while also reflecting the essence of the Vistula District. Davis shared these insights during a recent preview event, showcasing the ongoing construction of Toledo Pickle LLC’s new venture.

Facility Features

At the heart of this expansive 40,000-square-foot, two-story facility—located at 1030 Water St., on the former truck base of the city’s Division of Streets, Bridges, and Harbor—are nine indoor pickleball courts designed for players of all skill levels. Mike Gibbons, a partner at Toledo Pickle LLC, expressed optimism about the project’s timeline, stating, “We are hoping to open by December 18. We’re waiting on an electrical component, and that’s been delayed a couple times, so we hope to have that here by the end of next week, and that’ll be telling us whether or not we’re going to make that timetable.

The courts will feature a Pro-Cushion surface, aimed at enhancing the gameplay experience while minimizing physical strain on players.

Revitalizing the Community

We are thrilled to share the progress of Toledo Pickle and its role in revitalizing this part of Toledo,” commented Brian Epstein, managing member of the company. His vision for the facility encompasses a vibrant gathering space for the community, offering year-round activities that will bolster the appeal of the Glass City Riverwalk. In addition to pickleball, visitors can expect attractions such as rock-wall climbing, cornhole, and shuffleboard.

Additional amenities will include 16 large-screen televisions, a concert stage, a restaurant, a bar, and a 300-foot patio with scenic river views, alongside a children’s activity center featuring arcade games.

Collaborative Efforts

The long-abandoned Water Street building was generously donated to Metroparks Toledo by the city, which retains ownership of the land. Without the support of Metroparks, representatives from Toledo Pickle emphasized that this project might not have come to fruition.

We have a really good private-public partnership with Metroparks,” Gibbons stated. “They’re doing their Metroparks walkway around the building, eventually tying it in with the Craig Street Bridge. It’ll tie the whole downtown together when they’re done with it.
