Ira Township Launches Trio of Pickleball Courts: In a move to keep up with the rising popularity of pickleball, officials in Ira Township have unveiled a new set of three pickleball courts located near the township hall. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 19, attracted a large crowd of local officials and residents eager to try out the new facilities.

Prime Location for New Courts
The new pickleball courts are conveniently situated adjacent to the main township parking lot, close to Ira Township’s offices, hall, fire department, and water department.
“They are right in the middle of the compound. And these Pickleball courts are going to be a great addition to Ira Township.” – (Babisz)
Financing the Project
Ira Township utilized some of its ARPA funds to finance the new courts, reflecting a strategic investment in recreational amenities that cater to children and adults.
“We have added new playscapes and features for the kids. Now it was time to add new options for the “Big Kids”.” – (Babisz)
The Popularity of Pickleball
While pickleball is gaining popularity nationwide, Ira Township is enthusiastic about its prospects locally.
“I would say 10 and older. However, this sport is usually played by adults, especially retirees.” – (Babisz)

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was well-received, with Ira Township Treasurer Tom Lauer cutting the ribbon.
“Our Ira Township Treasurer Tom Lauer was our speaker representative and cut the ribbon. Tom had suggested the pickleball courts.” – (Babisz)
“The ribbon cutting was wonderful. Being part of the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce is a huge resource for the township. Many chamber members attended, our office staff and board members attended as well as Project Control Engineering and Pickleball Contractor Cortis Brother/CorCat.” – (Babisz)

In addition to the new pickleball courts, the park offers two playscapes, a pavilion, basketball and volleyball courts, a gaga pit, a walking path, a disc golf course, and beautiful nature trails. The park hosts various events, including music in the park, bike safety day, an annual dog event, and holiday celebrations.
