Held at the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, the event drew a crowd of over 60 enthusiasts, with 25 newcomers signing on as members.

From Humble Beginnings to Sporting Success

What started as a modest gathering of pickleball aficionados just three months ago has blossomed into a vibrant sports community. Today, the club boasts an expanded roster of team matches and has quadrupled its weekly social sessions, catering to players of all ages and skill levels.

Key Figures and Community Support

The event’s success was showed by the presence of influential figures like Bryan Clare, the club’s chairman, and Christine Neyndorff, regional director for Pickleball England. Also in attendance were Councillor Jim Brown, the Mayor of Stevenage, and representatives from The Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership.

A Sport for All Ages and Abilities

Pickleball, described as a fusion of tennis and table tennis, has gained popularity for its inclusive and sociable nature. Kirsty Jones, area contract activity and wellbeing manager for Everyone Active across Stevenage, expressed enthusiasm over the sport’s growth, noting its appeal to diverse demographics.

Jones Explained- “It’s been so exciting to see an accessible, fun, sociable sport like pickleball expand in our district and beyond, as we see people of all ages and levels of fitness have a go.

Expanding Horizons

Stevenage Pickleball Club hosts bi-weekly social play sessions at the Leisure Centre, providing accessible opportunities for engagement. Sessions are scheduled on Mondays at 11:30 AM, Wednesdays at 9:30 AM, and Thursdays and Fridays at 3:30 PM, ensuring flexibility for participants across the district.
