Femme Open USA Kicks Off with Networking and Leadership Panel
This pickleball event will kick off on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a gathering for players to network, socialize, and engage with a leadership panel. This networking session sets the tone for a weekend of friendship and competition. On Saturday, the gameplay begins with 24 pickleball teams and 24 padel teams competing for top honors.
The Femme Open USA: A Growing Movement
“Getting out on the court is such a beautiful way to connect with others, make new friends, socialize, and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Bianca Vanrell, owner of Femme Open USA and Off the Wall Consulting.
“Our goal is to bring women together, not just to play but to share meaningful experiences through sport across the U.S.” – (Bianca Vanrell)
As the first of many Femme Opens planned for the U.S., this event signifies the growing demand for women’s sports tournaments and a desire for women-only spaces within the athletic field.
The Rise of Pickleball and Padel
Both pickleball and padel have been on the rise globally in recent years, with pickleball in particular becoming a cultural phenomenon. The sport has been announced as the fastest-growing in the U.S., especially following the surge in popularity during the pandemic.
The 2024 Sports & Fitness Industry Association Topline Participation Report shows that pickleball’s participation increased by 223.5% over three years. Padel, on the other hand, has not seen the same level of growth in the U.S. but remains a dominant force worldwide. According to Forbes, there were just 10,000 padel courts globally in 2016, and that number is expected to rise to approximately 70,000 by 2026.
Key Differences: Pickleball vs. Padel
While both sports are racquet-based and share similarities, the key difference lies in the court. Padel is played on a larger court surrounded by walls, allowing players to hit the ball off the walls and even venture outside the enclosed area to return shots. Pickleball, in contrast, is typically played on a smaller court without the use of walls, making it a faster-paced game.
