Young and Senior Players Unite in Split-Age Competition at APP Women’s Open

Split-Age Competition at APP Women’s Open: It was no surprise that the semifinal lineup featured all four senior women currently ranked in the top 10 on the APP’s Champions tour for Senior Women’s Doubles. The Women’s Pro Doubles Split-Age competition featured a unique pairing of “junior” and “senior pro”. Susannah Barr and Sheri Courter upset the #1 seeds Megan Fudge and Angela Simon in a thrilling final, while Lee Whitwell and Amanda Hendry took bronze. This event showed the competitive spirit of pickleball, showing talent across generations and showing that age is just a number.

Stars Shine in the Semifinals

It was no surprise that the semifinal lineup featured all four senior women currently ranked in the top 10 on the APP’s Champions tour for Senior Women’s Doubles. The current senior #1 pro, Lee Whitwell, teamed up with Amanda Hendry, setting their sights on the title.

However, they faced strong competition from the dynamic duo of #9 senior pro Sheri Courter and #2 main pro Susannah Barr, who proved too strong and advanced to the final.

On the other side of the bracket, the major player pairing of Megan Fudge, the #1 APP main pro, and Angela Simon, the current #2 senior pro, showed their skill by defeating Anna Shirley (#6 on the Senior circuit) and Jill Braverman (#8 on the APP despite limited action in 2024) in a hard-fought semifinal.

As the final match unfolded, the excitement was noticeable. Barr and Courter pulled off an impressive upset, overcoming the strong Fudge and Simon team to catch the title.
