Their matchup, a back-and-forth struggle full of grit and determination, is already being hailed as one of the season’s most memorable contests.

After splitting the first two games, Fahey surged ahead to a 7-3 lead in the decisive third game. Lea Jansen, undeterred by the deficit, staged an impressive comeback, rattling off seven straight points to reach match point at 10-7. But Katey Fahey, refusing to yield, saved five match points and clawed her way back to a stunning 14-12 win, closing out one of the most electrifying matches of the year.

A Season of Success for Fahey

Fahey’s victory over Jansen continues her remarkable run in the second half of 2024. The No. 9 seed has earned five medals in women’s singles since August, including titles in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Her consistency and unyielding drive have made her a standout on the tour.

Reflecting on her recent success, Fahey credits her resilience and determination. “I think it’s my grit,” said the former University of Michigan tennis standout. “I was super gritty in college and in junior tennis. I’m not the most talented person in the world, but I think I work as hard as I possibly can every match.

With her quarterfinal triumph behind her, Fahey now prepares to face No. 5 seed Salome Devidze in the semifinals on Saturday. Both players have shown exceptional skill and tenacity throughout the tournament, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle with a place in the finals on the line.
