Jorja Johnson and Lacy Schneemann’s Epic Comeback: In what could be considered the upset of the tournament, Jorja Johnson and Lacy Schneemann overcame Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau with a 3-11, 11-6, 11-5 victory at CIBC PPA Tour Finals. Despite being a new pairing in San Clemente, Johnson and Schneemann managed to find their rhythm after a rocky start, rallying from a game down to claim the win over the tournament’s top seeds.

A Strong Recovery After a Tough Start
The duo, who had lost their opening pool play match on Wednesday, quickly turned things around. Their ability to bounce back and perform at a high level highlighted a strong sense of chemistry that was missing earlier in the tournament. Schneemann attributed part of the improvement to trusting Johnson more than they had in their previous match.
“I was playing a little bit too big yesterday, and Jorja is such a stellar player. I can let her set herself up and set me up without making the mistakes that I was making yesterday in the middle.” – (Schneemann)
Johnson/Schneemann Make History
With the win, Johnson and Schneemann became just the second team ever to defeat Waters and Parenteau. The first was Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher, marking a historic moment in the tournament. Johnson reflected on the odds they defied,
“I was talking to Lacy before we played today, and we saw that apparently, we had like a 1.3% chance to win, so I guess 1.3 is our lucky number.” – (Johnson)
Looking Ahead to the Final Pool Play Match
Johnson and Schneemann are now 1-1 heading into their final pool play match on Friday against Mary Brascia and Meghan Dizon, who are currently 0-2. Meanwhile, Waters and Parenteau, sitting at 1-1, will face Parris Todd and Tina Pisnik (2-0) in a crucial match to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
