Emma Raducanu Thanks Fans in First Post After Transylvania Open Loss

Emma Raducanu reached the final of the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, marking her first appearance in a final since her US Open triumph and her initial tournament without coach Francisco Roig. Despite her strong performance throughout the week, Raducanu was decisively defeated by Romanian player Sorana Cirstea in the final, seemingly not at full health. Following the match, Raducanu took to social media for the first time since the loss to express her thanks to supporters during the event.

The Impact of Local Support and Raducanu’s Connection to Romania

Throughout the tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Raducanu received substantial backing from fans, amplified by her ties to Romania through her father. This connection created a sense of home advantage and drew intense support even when she faced Cirstea, who competes for Romania. Raducanu acknowledged this heartfelt backing in an Instagram post featuring 18 photos where she conveyed her appreciation. She wrote,

“Thank you Cluj. A wonderful week – thank you for the incredible support all week.”

Coaching Changes and Upcoming Plans for Raducanu

The Transylvania Open was Raducanu’s first tournament after ending her collaboration with coach Francisco Roig. British coach Alexis Canter accompanied her during the event, and Raducanu has confirmed she intends to continue working with Canter going forward. However, her tournament schedule remains uncertain at this stage.

What’s Next on Raducanu’s Competitive Calendar?

While Raducanu was competing in Cluj-Napoca, she was entered into the Qatar Open draw, where she is slated to face qualifier Camila Osorio in the opening round. Raducanu has previously beaten Osorio this year, but due to her recent illness, it is unclear whether she will participate in the Doha event. Should she decide to withdraw, her next potential competition would be the Dubai Tennis Championships. Regardless of participation in Qatar, Raducanu’s performance in Romania is set to boost her back into the WTA top 25 rankings.
