Taylor Townsend, who has been absent from the WTA Tour since the Australian Open earlier this year, has revealed when she will resume playing professionally. The American tennis player, known for her success in doubles and presence on the singles circuit, explained her recent hiatus came due to personal reasons involving her family, specifically her young son.

Townsend, who parted ways with her coach at the end of 2025 despite winning a Grand Slam and becoming world number one in doubles last year, had a challenging start to 2026. Being a mother is the most important thing to me and as much as I love tennis, I love my son way more (laughs). So that is why I had to pull out from the events. I was going to be playing Abu Dhabi and Doha, and I was really excited to go back to those places, they’re so beautiful.”

She also discussed her immediate plans for the upcoming months, indicating a hopeful return to the court soon:

“After this time I’ll be starting off in Austin, really excited to go back there. So, I’ll be in Austin, Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston and that’s my next chunk of tournaments before we hit the clay.”
