This reduction will lower Rybakina’s total from 7,523 to 7,253 points, allowing Swiatek to increase her margin at No. 2 in the WTA rankings.
Continuing Rivalry Expected at Indian Wells
Swiatek’s grip on second place remains firm for now, yet the competition with Rybakina is far from settled as both prepare for the Indian Wells tournament next month. Both players have strong records at this prestigious WTA 1000 event: Swiatek won the title in 2022 and 2024, while Rybakina took the championship in 2023.
Last year, Swiatek reached the semi-finals and Rybakina advanced to the fourth round at Indian Wells, both losing to eventual champion Mirra Andreeva. Heading into this year’s competition, Swiatek is defending 390 points, while Rybakina has only 120 points to protect. With 1,000 points available for the winner, both athletes have a prime opportunity to boost their rankings significantly.
