Venus Williams Finds Strength in Husband After ATX Open Loss

Venus Williams faced challenging defeats at the ATX Open held in Austin, Texas, where she competed in both singles and doubles events but was eliminated in the opening rounds. The renowned American tennis star, aged 45, credited her husband Andrea Preti for being a vital source of encouragement following her disappointing results at the WTA 250 hardcourt tournament.

As a wildcard entrant, Williams was hopeful for a strong showing but was overcome in the first round by Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated her decisively with a 6-4, 6-1 scoreline. Notably, Tomljanovic also ended Venus’s sister Serena Williams’ singles career by defeating her at the 2022 US Open.

In doubles action, Venus partnered with Peyton Stearns but fell to top-seeded Taylor Townsend and Storm Hunter with a score of 6-2, 7-6(5). After the matches, Williams shared an Instagram Story featuring her husband, who was seen on the practice court supporting and motivating her while holding a racket himself. Andrea Preti is known for his work as an actor, producer, and model.

Venus Considers the Possibility of Partnering with Serena Again

During a press conference at the tournament, Williams spoke about the prospect of teaming with her sister Serena in doubles once more, especially following Serena’s recent return to professional tennis. While Venus expressed enthusiasm about the idea, she remained uncertain about Serena’s current training routine and readiness to compete.

“Oh man, wouldn’t that be cool? I never see her practicing though. I don’t know where she’s doing it. I think to come back, you have to get out there. So, we’ll see if she can put some work in. I mean, of course, playing for exercise is nice. There’s a lot of hours that goes into it, so we’ll see what happens,” Williams said.

Throughout their careers, the Williams sisters dominated women’s doubles, capturing 22 titles together, including 14 Grand Slam championships. They also secured three Olympic gold medals as a pair. Their last competitive doubles appearance was at the 2022 US Open, where they were defeated by the Czech team of Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.

Tennis Legacy and Family Reflections Inspire Future Steps

Venus Williams and her father Richard have reminisced about matches that the seven-time Grand Slam champion believes she could have won, highlighting her ongoing determination despite recent setbacks. This reflective mindset, combined with the strong support from her husband Andrea Preti, plays a crucial role in her approach to upcoming challenges.

The experiences at the ATX Open underline the difficulties that even legendary athletes face as they continue to compete at a high level later in their careers. Venus’ acknowledgment of her husband’s support emphasizes the importance of a strong personal foundation during demanding times in professional sports. Looking ahead, fans will be curious to see whether Venus continues to pursue doubles opportunities with Serena and how her resilience will shape future tournaments.
