Early Life and Background
Andrew Abbott was born on June 1, 1999. He attended Halifax County High School in South Boston, Virginia. During his high school years, he showcased his talent in baseball, which led to his selection by the New York Yankees in the 36th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he chose not to sign and instead pursued his education and baseball career at the University of Virginia. While at college, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2018, further honing his skills.

After four years at the University of Virginia, Andrew Abbott was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 2021 MLB draft, being the 53rd overall pick. Abbott continued to impress, becoming the first MLB pitcher to achieve three scoreless starts of at least five innings since 1893. He finished his rookie season with an 8–6 record and a 3.87 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 120 batters in 109+1⁄3 innings.
