Al-Shaair committed to play college football at Florida Atlantic University, even as he continued to go on recruiting visits to support his family.

Al-Shaair became a four-year starter at linebacker for the Florida Atlantic Owls. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, earning a spot on the Conference USA All-Freshman team and being named a Freshman All-American after leading the team with 94 tackles. In 2020, he recorded his first career interception against the Philadelphia Eagles.
