Early Life and Background

Byron Young was born on March 13, 1998, in Georgetown, South Carolina. He attended Carvers Bay High School in Hemingway, South Carolina, where he began to develop his passion for football. Despite being barely recruited out of high school, Young persevered and worked at Dollar General before taking a significant step in his football career by walking on at Georgia Military College in 2020.

Path to American Football

Young’s journey in football took off after his time at Georgia Military College, where he played one season and was ranked as the number 10 Junior College prospect. He committed to the University of Tennessee over other programs, including Ole Miss. Initially a backup during his first season at Tennessee in 2021, Young made a strong impact by starting the last eight games, recording 46 total tackles and leading the team with 5.5 sacks. His performance earned him recognition, including being named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) defensive lineman of the week during a standout game against LSU in 2022.

Early Career (2020-2022)

Young’s early career began at Georgia Military College, where he showcased his potential and earned a scholarship to Tennessee. His time at Tennessee was marked by significant achievements, including being named to the All-SEC first team in 2022. His college career laid the foundation for his entry into the NFL.

Breakthrough (2023-Present)

Byron Young was selected in the third round as the 77th overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Rams acquired this pick through a trade with the Miami Dolphins. Young entered his first training camp and preseason as a starting outside linebacker, and he quickly proved his worth. He made his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, where he recorded his first career split-sack and played a significant portion of the defensive snaps.
