Charles Woods was born on June 17, 2000, in Dallas, Texas. He attended Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas, where he participated in football, basketball, and track and field. He concluded his senior season with impressive statistics, recording 35 receptions for 678 yards, 27 carries for 148 yards, and a total of 16 touchdowns. After high school, Woods committed to play college football for the Illinois State Redbirds, despite being a no-star recruit.

Woods began his college football career at Illinois State, where he played as a defensive back. In his freshman year in 2018, he appeared in 11 games, starting three, and totaled 16 tackles. After leaving Illinois State, Woods initially opted to transfer to the SMU Mustangs but later changed his commitment to the West Virginia Mountaineers. In his first year at West Virginia in 2021, he totaled 31 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. He redshirted in 2022 and appeared in four games, starting three, where he recorded seven solo tackles. Following the 2022 season, Woods transferred again for his final year of eligibility, returning to SMU. In his lone season with the Mustangs in 2023, he started all 14 games, posting 27 tackles and leading the team with 11 pass breakups. His performance earned him recognition as a third-team All-American Athletic Conference selection.
Breakthrough (2024–Present)
After going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Woods signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent. He made the team’s initial 53-man roster for the 2024 season. However, on December 2, 2024, Woods was waived and subsequently re-signed to the practice squad. He signed a reserve/future contract on January 20, 2025.
