Early Life and Background

Cody Poteet was born in El Cajon, California. He attended Christian High School, where he began to develop his skills in baseball. After high school, he was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 27th round of the 2012 MLB draft but chose to further his education and baseball career at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA, Poteet played for the UCLA Bruins and made a name for himself as a promising pitcher. In 2014, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Baseball League, further honing his skills.

Poteet made his MLB debut on May 12, 2021, as a starting pitcher for the Miami Marlins against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his first season, he started seven games, finishing with a 2-3 record and a 4.99 ERA, along with 32 strikeouts over 30.2 innings. His 2022 season saw him pitch in 12 games for the Marlins, where he recorded a 3.86 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 28 innings. However, his season was cut short due to Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in August 2022.

After recovering from surgery, Poteet signed a one-year contract with the New York Yankees on January 5, 2024.
