Early Life and Background

Colton McKivitz grew up in Belmont, Ohio, and initially attended East Richland Christian High School before transferring to Union Local High School shortly before his sophomore year. At Union Local, he excelled on the football field and was named first-team All-Ohio during his senior year. His performance was so impressive that the school retired his jersey number in 2019. As a three-star recruit, McKivitz initially committed to play college football at Miami of Ohio but later switched his commitment to West Virginia, turning down offers from several other schools, including Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Marshall, and Toledo.

Path to American Football

McKivitz redshirted his true freshman season at West Virginia. He became the Mountaineers’ starting left tackle four games into his redshirt freshman season after the starter, Yodny Cajuste, suffered a torn ACL. McKivitz started the final ten games of that season, showcasing his skills on a larger stage. As a redshirt sophomore, he transitioned to right tackle, starting all 13 games and earning honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors. He continued to build on his success as a redshirt junior, starting all 12 games for the Mountaineers.
